He’s My Baby Daddy

I wanted to hurry up and post this before father’s day because I don’t want to ruin the day with this news. Unless you have been living under a rock, then you may have heard about the baby daddy greeting card Target drama. Yes, I call it drama because the situation is totally unnecessary. I don’t understand some of the people of my race. How come it’s okay for some of us to come up with words or be able to say certain words to one another but the minute a white person says it they are racist? Yeah, I said it. For instance, the “n” word is a very offensive word, but some black people call one another that. Now stay with me. I’m about to make a huge point.

I recently took a class, and the subject came up about what is acceptable language socially. Long story short it was agreed upon that if it’s not acceptable socially, then it should not be expressed verbally publicly. Still, what is offensive? I have never liked the phrase “baby daddy.” I would cringe when I would hear some females say, “oh, he’s just my baby, daddy.” There is nothing cool about having a baby daddy or for some mothers, baby daddies. This phrase was supposed to be the new in words like “fleek” a word that I wish would go far away!!!
far-far-away

Some classes were being taught in school about Ebonics. It was shown so that other races of people could understand the blending of words ebony, aka black and phonics sounds. The Britannica describes it as “a form of American English used in the home or for day-to-day communication rather than for formal occasions.” The Merriam-Webster refers to “baby daddy” as slang.

The Urban Dictionary defines “baby daddy” as a father of a woman’s child that she is not involved with” The sentence used to explain the meaning of the words went something like this “Who is that? “Girl two.” That’s my dumb baby daddy”. So if this word is in the urban dictionary and it’s being used in heavy rotation, what’s the big deal about the “baby daddy” greeting card?

Target is a retail department store that was trying to “target” or appeal to the people who uses this phrase. I feel that it’s beyond ridiculous that they had to apologize for a greeting card. The greeting card was sighted as being “racially insensitive.” How is a greeting card with “baby daddy” in it being racially insensitive? It was a phrase invented by a person or people of the black race. For goodness, sakes. How is a “baby daddy” card racist? I wonder what the race of the person who made the card was? And what kind of father’s day cards would mothers who aren’t involved with their children’s fathers deem to be appropriate? I guarantee that many of them refer to their children’s fathers as their “baby daddy.” Frankly, I just don’t get it. Here’s what was inside of the greeting card:

I could be wrong, but I think that when something sheds light on the bad things that are usually celebrated within the black community that should not be. The reality of dysfunction becomes real then all of a sudden it comes off as being “racist” because the dysfunction of what is going on in the black community is being exposed even if it’s done unintentionally. Getting all up in an uproar behind a greeting card shows that the truth hurts.

Writing What Matters to Me

I once heard a person say that “a writer writes something every day”. Hmmmm, I am not so sure about that. It’s quality over quantity always. When I first started my blogging journey I wrote like I was writing in a diary really, really relaxed. The subjects that I shared were always interesting but I had to become more aware of my grammar. Overall, I am proud of my blog. I wanted to do something that had lots of interesting things. Having mind blowing posts that sticks leaving a lasting impression. That’s what I am aiming for. I believe also that I should do things that makes me feel that I am being true to myself. If not, why should I blog at all?

Growing up I always loved writing especially poems. I have been writing poems every since I was a teenager. Blogging allows me to dive into others things that are important to me as well. As I have said there is only but so much that I can say on Facebook without someone not feeling what I am saying.

I will do whatever it takes to keep my blog going. Since I am so passionate about what I write I refuse to fold when it comes to my blog. The things that I talk about needs to be said I am not about saying things so that it goes over people’s heads. Nope, nope, and nope.

Valuable Lesson

There are so many things that I have learned over the years some of the things were hard lessons. Although it’s said that experience is the best teacher in some cases I would like to elect not to take the lesson.

The job where I worked in the 90s had a lot of great people. I enjoyed going to work just to see them. My friend and I met one another at this job. We became great friends instantly. She was a big help to me when my mother past away in 1997 with her support. At my mother’s funeral I can’t tell you the number of people who promised to have mine and my sisters’ backs. I can tell you the number that kept their promises, it was about five people perhaps. My mother’s funeral was packed with people too. When tough times hits you find out who your true friends are. I didn’t need money I needed a listening ear and she was there. I had a lot of responsibility on me at the time.

Recently, I reconnected with my best friend. About ten years ago I saw her while I was at work and we talked for a few months sadly we lost contact. To be honest I was going out with a guy was extremely jealous and selfish. Thankfully I broke up with him it was one of the best decisions that I have ever made in my life.

It’s important when people are in relationships or marriages to make sure that the person is happy but not at the expense of losing friendships and family. It’s a big red flag when a companion wants you all to themselves. So run for the hills.

Anywho, my friend was on my mind and so I looked for her on social media. I could not find my friend anywhere on social media. She doesn’t have any social media at all. While I was searching for her I found out that some of the people my friend and I worked with passed away. It really hurt me too. Especially when I found out that her mother passed away during the time that we had lost contact. I was devastated, it’s a feeling that I don’t want to know ever again.

It’s so important to stay connected to the people who we care about. Money can always be earned back but time once it’s gone that’s it. The most valuable lesson that I learned is to never lose contact with great friends. I promised my friend that I would not lose contact with her ever again. Great friends are hard to find. They are like precious diamonds. We should hold our friends tight and never let them go. I know that’s what I am going to be doing from now on.

Icky Racism

I saw something on You-Tube that was absolutely disgusting. There was a video from Jack White’s concert where Jack White sang Icky Trump instead of Icky Thump. Now if you have been following me long enough it’s no secret how much of a humongous fan that I am of Jack White. I love his music. Anyway, there was a commenter who made a icky comment that was very racist.

Jack White has been very vocal about his feelings towards Donald Trump. When Jack White did his lyrics it said “Who’s using who? What should we do? Well you can’t be a pimp and a prosititute too. Jack White Add That’s for you Trump. You can’t be a president and a prostitute too.” This is in response to America’s immigration policies.

So under the video an icky commenter made some foul comments besides the grammar being repulsive saying things like Black and Latinos aren’t into Jack White’s music!!!! Dude seriously?!

I am pretty sure that I am not the only black person in the world who appreciates the brilliance of Jack White’s music. I have Jack White t-shirts, listens to him just about every day and brought a ticket to see him play in Washington, D.C. If you ask my family and friends who’s my favorite musician they will say Jack White.

I am all for freedom of speech but I draw the line at stupidity. Racism is just plain Icky.

My top songs for 2017 and looks who’s number 1!!!

The Haunted Mansion

I find the men who have trouble with commitment quite comical. No one and I do mean no one is going to stop me from being happy for people who are getting married or have gotten married especially for Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Sussex and Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel. I was so stoked for Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding yesterday, ooh and that gospel choir though!!!

These kinds of men will tug (attempt to anyway) at a woman’s self-esteem until they are able to bring them down to their level/standards. Newsflash if a man is one of substance he would not try to bring a woman down. Mind you if they are able to bring a woman down it is not for a commitment it’s only to use and abuse her while bashing the woman after she has given in and done what he wanted. A woman isn’t good enough for commitment but she’s good enough to have sex with.

Women must be careful of these kinds of men real men don’t do these kinds of things. These kinds of men possess soul ties so many souls that are tied to them that they no longer possess a temple but more like a haunted mansion. They have trouble with commitment however unbeknownst to them soul ties are for life and they need to get their lives right. We all need to pray for discernment so that we don’t connect with the wrong people.

As long as we are living we all deserve to smile so there is no time to entertain people whose main objective is to prey on you. We are better than that.

Twilight World

Swing Out Sister are my favorite pop group. The music from the 80s was so touched by them. BET played a lot of their music back in the day. They are considered as a pop group but their music sounds very soulful. There are so many songs by them that I love. One of my favorite songs is called Twilight World!! Check out the lyrics:

Twilight World
Song by Swing Out Sister

It’s twilight world
It’s twilight world
Time out
World in a hurry
There’s more love than money changing hands
Lights out
Thinking out loud
Turn your back on the world outside
Night thoughts
No one can share
As darkness breaks through another day
Secrets
Talking out loud
Silence waits just a dream away
Forget lonely crowds, unfriendly faces
They’ll soon became familliar places
Before too long, before too long
Don’t be fooled by love songs and lonely hearts
You’re living in a twilight world
Don’t be fooled by love songs and lonely hearts
Don’t give in to the twilight world
Time out
World in a hurry
There’s more love than money changing hands
Lights out
Thinking out loud
Turn your back on the world outside
Forget lonely crowds, unfriendly faces
They’ll soon become familiar places
Before too long, before too long
Don’t be fooled by love songs and lonely hearts. You’re living in twilight world.
Don’t be fooled by love songs and lonely hearts. Don’t give in to the twilight world.
Don’t be fooled by love songs and lonely hearts. You’re living in a twilight world. Don’t be fooled by love songs and lonely hearts. Don’t give in to the twilight world.

What Being A Mother Means to Me

It’s not about being recognized
Because we will continue
To do right by our children
As long as we are alive
We make sure that our children
Are fed and not just fast food
But homecooked meals
That are filled with our love
We make daily sacrifices
We give our children
Our undivided attention
We cloth our children with the best
But it goes beyond fashion
When we send our children off to school
It’s with the hopes
That they will do better than we did
We put smiles on our children’s faces
We give hope and strength
We pray that when our children get older
That they will not know
Anything about the word poverty
We teach our children the importance
Of having a strong relationship with God
Because it’s one of the best things
That they will ever have
Yes, we may make mistakes along the way
But when we mess up
We know how important it is
To fess up
Of course we are human
But no one is too big
That they can’t ask for forgiveness
Because besides having
God’s respect
Our children’s respect comes right behind His
We pray that our children
Will have better marriages
And no soul ties
Nothing that will ever break their spirits
But inheritance of happier hearts and beautiful minds
So when they go out into the world
They will be equipped with the knowledge
To thrive
Time flys
Our children will go from babies
In our arms
To young adults that are off to college
So we have to bless our children
With memories that will last them a lifetime
Being a mother isn’t about us
It’s about the children
Whom God blessed us with

What’s Tameeka Listening To?

There has been a lot of new music that has been released Jack White released Over and Over and Over, Jimi Hendrix has a new album and Chris Cornell’s song You Never Knew My Mind. I so love the new Chris Cornell song it bought tears to my eyes. Chris Cornell will forever be missed!

The song is a cover of Johnny Cash’s poem. Before Chris Cornell passed way he went to the Cash Cabin to record the song. I love Johnny Cash he did a cover of Soundgarden’s Rusty Cage.

When you get the opportunity please check out Chris Cornell’s new song you will not regret it.

Like a Sister

We see it on television or social media every day a person who was considered to be a sister who betrayed another in the worse way. Is there any true sisterhood anymore? Are there any loyal sisters today?

It’s all about the respect and the value that people choose to place on things like friendships, relationships, marriages, and yes sisterhood.

I saw a beautiful post and it’s so how I am. The post said ” I am a woman’s woman and a faithful friend. I won’t run off with your man. I won’t hate you because you’re beautiful. I’ll celebrate your success as my own. I’ll keep your secrets and listen to your rants. I choose my friends carefully and if I choose you, I’ll love you like a sister.

I don’t take pleasure in pulling other sisters down. No matter where I am in life through my highs and lows I am never stingy with a compliment. If a sister has lost weight, a new place, new hair-do I will tell her, that I am proud, that she’s beautiful. Never will I undermine a sister’s accomplishment she deserves her props. One thing I don’t do and that’s jock another sister’s style, I am a confident woman I don’t constantly need the spotlight.

This world is already wicked and filled with heartless hateful people. Being negative is easy to do, seeing the best in people can be hard if we focus on the bad things only. There is peace in positivity.

Being mean and fault finding all the time isn’t healthy it’s good to have awareness of the negative people and situations. However, it’s good to enjoy things as well as people that come along.

I choose to believe that there are still good people and that means sisters of every color. Flowers bloom together, they don’t compete because each has their own unique beauty. I’m keeping faith about true sisterhood. It exists.
