Who Am I?

Who I am
I look to the sky
And give this reply
I am a woman
That is humble
Who seeks to have the
Meekness of Moses
The grace of a swan
And gentleness of a dove
Who is knowledgeable about
The true prosperity of life
Which is love, having a pure heart,
And wisdom
Things that cannot
Be found in a
A self-help book
Only God can place
A spirit like this
Inside of me
Like a hook
That plant seeds
Of blessings
Which I will water
Words of positivity
That grows constantly
Forever flourishing
I know who I am
And I know what I deserve
Because the king of kings
And the Lord of Lords
Is who I serve
My life isn’t like the movie
Love and Basketball
I ain’t playing for
A dude’s heart
A king doesn’t play games
He lives by honor
Day by day
So he would never
Dream of causing
A woman like me
Any pain
He recognizes
A woman’s fire
He wants to stay
Drawn to it
Because Godly people
Look to stay
Connected to on
Fire Christians
So they will remain ablaze
They don’t want
The fire to die out
In any kind of way
A king steps up
Into his rightful place
He’s not afraid
He makes his somedays
Prominent today
I step up into
My calling proudly
A Woman of Virtue
That is who I am

I Wanna Be

W-O-M-A-N
I am a woman
Before anything
I believe that
What God has
For me, is for me
Therefore I don’t
Have to beg for nothing
I have grown spiritually
I feel so free
I am a Woman of God
I’m resourceful
I’m educated
I am simply I
Can’t nobody
Bring me down
I’m floating
On cloud nine
I am ready
For God to send me
My guy
One who doesn’t make cry
But makes me smile
He allows me
To be me completely
To be what he needs
I want to be his safe place
I want to tell him
That everything will be okay
He can unburden himself
By telling me his
Hopes, fears, and if he is scared
And I still see him
As a man, because he is
I see him as my hero, still
We both feel secure
Even in a hundred years
I will love me some him
To everyone, I will
Make it loud and clear
So they better not
Be trying to fill his ear
With a bunch of nonsense
Because they don’t have
A man who is near and dear
To them
They will just be hating
He won’t fall into their
Trap because he will be
Wiser than that
He will realize that
They want to laugh
Not just at me
But at him too
He knows that
Once we are together
What we can do
As a team
Having one another’s backs
We know that misery
Loves company
But we won’t be joining
That party
I am going to have
To pass on the trauma bonding
Break the chains of pain
I will take the celebrating
I can’t wait for us
To worship together
To have walks together
Drink coffee
Cook dinner
Constantly build
Team up against the devil
And love one another
More and more each day
Besides what God is
To him
I wanna be
His everything
No no no
Not I wanna be
I’m gonna be
Just everyone wait and see
It has been a long time coming
A blessing in the making
Wink, Wink

Happy Birthday Lil Sis

Happy Birthday to my lil Sis
You are a gift
That is tremendous
Anyone who gets to meet you
Should consider themselves blessed
You are you unapologetically
I am glad that God sent
You to me
In the past
I have spoken about
The few ups and downs
That we have encountered
But over the years
I have came to realize
That no one has
A relationship that’s perfect
It’s about how people
Care enough to
Work through things
And bounce back
Stronger than ever
To get things resolved
So that misunderstandings
Never happen again
You are not just
My lil sister
But my best friend
A bond that goes
Beyond blood
It’s something
That runs deeper
It’s about who is
In my heart
And that is where you are
This is why I made
You this card
Because these words
Aren’t found in Hallmark
Happy Birthday
I love you more than words can say

What Being A Mother Means to Me

It’s not about being recognized
Because we will continue
To do right by our children
As long as we are alive
We make sure that our children
Are fed and not just fast food
But homecooked meals
That are filled with our love
We make daily sacrifices
We give our children
Our undivided attention
We cloth our children with the best
But it goes beyond fashion
When we send our children off to school
It’s with the hopes
That they will do better than we did
We put smiles on our children’s faces
We give hope and strength
We pray that when our children get older
That they will not know
Anything about the word poverty
We teach our children the importance
Of having a strong relationship with God
Because it’s one of the best things
That they will ever have
Yes, we may make mistakes along the way
But when we mess up
We know how important it is
To fess up
Of course we are human
But no one is too big
That they can’t ask for forgiveness
Because besides having
God’s respect
Our children’s respect comes right behind His
We pray that our children
Will have better marriages
And no soul ties
Nothing that will ever break their spirits
But inheritance of happier hearts and beautiful minds
So when they go out into the world
They will be equipped with the knowledge
To thrive
Time flys
Our children will go from babies
In our arms
To young adults that are off to college
So we have to bless our children
With memories that will last them a lifetime
Being a mother isn’t about us
It’s about the children
Whom God blessed us with

Happy Birthday Kalieel

You were born ten days before my birthday
You are one of the most beautiful gifts
That I have ever been blessed to receive
Happy Birthday to my youngest son
Ever since you were born
You have been a ray of sunshine
And one of the best things
That I have ever held in my arms
Besides your brother
You know me better than anyone
In spite of you having autism
You know my favorite
Music, tv shows, video games, and football team
Our number one favorite thing is praying
Such an amazing young man
You always know how to brighten my day
When I am feeling down
You tell me that
Things will be okay
I could go on forever in a day
Telling you how much
Of a blessing that you are to me
I am so thankful
That God gave me you
I love you very much
You are my everything
To my heart
There is so much joy that you bring
Happy 15th Birthday Kalieel
I pray that God blesses
You with the desires
Of your heart
Each and every one

Sometimes I Wanna

Sometimes I wanna
Just listen to the guitar riffs
Of a song alone
So that I can imagine
How the guitarist
Created it as they hummed
Guitar riffs are something that rock,
Funk and jazz music
All sometimes can share
Sometimes I wanna blare my music
As I intensely cheer
Sometimes I wanna
Listen to the strings playing on a banjo
Tunes of country music with words
Of sadness and heartbreak to it
Sometimes I wanna line dance
And slap leather to the sound of a fiddle
Music brings all kinds of people together
It transcends across
The lines of racial boundaries
Sometimes I wanna relax
And listen to Luther’s smooth, soulful voice
That man could sing anything
He gave R & B true meaning
His legacy will always be
Sometimes I wanna
Hear great Hip Hop music
But not too much of the ones of today
It only makes me ponder
About the artist of yesterday
Boogie Down Production,
Public Enemy and Eric B and Rakim
Made me proud to listen to them
Sometimes I wanna hear an artist
Like Phil Anselmo
And Jonathan Davis screaming
What can I say
I am a metalhead all the way
Sometimes I wanna
Hear rock artist singing
Like Chris Cornell and Jack White
There is nothing like
Listening to Steve Vai
While looking at a starry sky
It’s like I am enjoying the beauty
Of the scenes to a beautiful movie
Forgive me for being a music fan
Who gets bored easily
From hearing the same things daily
Which is good actually
Variety is the spice of life
My taste in music is one of diversity
There is nothing
Like being able to appreciate
Music from every genre
From House to Techno
From Indie Pop to Gospel
From Reggae to classical
Each one has their own particular way
Of telling a story through song
That is uniquely done

We Are Not Same

Everyone is distinctive

In his or her own way

We are not the same

This is something that should be taught

To every child on their first school day

Each one of us

Have our own fingerprints and DNA

Black people come in different shades

White people have different

Hair and eye color

Asian people have Chinese, Japanese

Filipino, Pakistani, and Korean

Can you see where I am going with this

These things helps us to stand up

And stand out

From one another

We are not the same

Every woman can wear a size 8

And will still be different shapes

Some people are tall

Some people are short

Take the time to embrace

What makes people different

Do it as a way to appreciate it

And not as a way to copy it

To copy is to compete

You will forget why you are unique

You never want to lose yourself

Because you may never

Find yourself ever again

Being a person who follow trends

Regardless of a person

Trying to be the same

Least common factors

Will always remain

Apply this analogy to snowflakes

In your mind allow it to resonate

When we realize that being different

Is actually us being ourselves

It’s a blessing like nothing else

Differences help to make

This world beautiful

If everything were the same

We would not have things like the

Rainbow it requires

Various colors to make it complete

Even roses come in different colors

One life touches another

Different life stories with many pages

That are to encourage and inspire

It’s how God gets His glory

We must be the person

Who God called us to be

We are not the same

That will never change

And you know what

It’s okay
