Love Them Anyway

Now what did Jesus say
Above all to do
Love right
We have to do
It with all of our might
No matter how hard
A person comes against us
We have to trust Jesus
The most painful situation
Can be turned into
A beautiful creation
God says that
All things work together
For the good
Romans 8:28
Once we have finished baking
A cake we can no longer
See the ingredients
That it took to make it
We have to put on our armor
Of righteousness
Suit up
We must put on love daily
Make it a priority to
Trust God
Obey God
And Rest in that
For it is how
We react towards others
That shows our hearts
As Christians
So even through
All the heartache
We must love
Them anyway
Everything will be okay

The Covenant Keeper

Bone of my bones
Flesh of my flesh
She will be called Woman
For she was taken out of Man
This man and woman are
Two who will become one
So they are no longer
Are two but one
This was Jesus exact quote
Don’t believe it
Go read the Bible
Anyone who considers themselves
To be of God
Who speaks against this
Isn’t a true Christian
Yeah I said it
If the shoe fits
Wear it
Stop trying to break
God’s Covenant Promise
Or there will be consequences
Like God’s vengeance
It’s best to
Respect other people’s marriages
Even if you don’t like
The person who
Your family member
Is married to
Mind your business
Not doing so is dangerous
God took one rib from Adam
Not a slab
To make just Eve
Not Sarah, April, and Jane
Besides his rib cage was
Needed to protect his
Vital organs especially
His heart so
It could beat for his
God given wife
Holy Matrimony
Is what God intended
There is something
About people being the
Husband and Wife
That God has called them to be
It’s about dying to self
Letting go of selfishness
Stepping outside of
One’s comfort zone
Being a loving husband and wife
Who always desires to
Treat one another right
Always speaking well of one’s spouse
Being truthful
Spending alone time together
Being gentle
Showing your spouse that
You are grateful to have them
How you complete each other
And how it makes
You better because of it
You are one another’s strengthen
Never let them forget
Making them feel like
They matter
And not treating them
Like they are a habit
Regardless of the number
Of years that you two
Have been married
It’s a full commitment until death
A wife should be
A husband’s satisfaction
And a safe place
Be her husband’s release
Not a barrier
A husband should be attentive
All his wife’s concerns
He must understand
Every day he is constantly
Learning each and every one
After all God
Gave him the position
To be the head
Of the household
It’s God’s Way
We must respect it
He knows what is best
There will be times
When trouble may happen
It may be one of
The biggest test
That anyone could ever imagine
Suddenly it feels like
Your world came crashing down
Remember your vows
You can’t stop now
If one person falls
Be strong
Don’t fall too
God has greater
For you two
Every obstacle in
Life is a lesson
And a blessing
To help us to be
A light and a testimony
For others
To show the world
That in spite
Of our circumstances
God is still God
All by Himself
There is no need
For anything else
When all else fails
God will always be there
So many times
Situations have proven
That God’s power is real
Make your spouse
A priority
By doing this
It’s making the marriage
A priority
No matter the battle
Even if things are
Going amazing
Don’t ever stop fighting
To keep what makes
You both so happy

Love With An Open Heart

Past relationships and experiences
Dictate how we interact
In future relationships
Causing us to armor up
To put our guards up
Which still allow
Past disappointments
To continue to take
Centerstage
We then
Come up with reasons
For our actions
Dress them up
By giving them different names
Whether it’s referred to
As a protective layer
Or a wall used to
Keep us from feeling
Vulnerable
Which in actuality
Keeps us from
Something that could
Potentially be special
Love requires the giving
Of oneself
Compromise and
Vulnerability
How Else will we be
Able to recognize
True love’s credibility
Then we can enjoy stability
Be set free
From past relationships
That was ugly
It’s important
For the heart to feel love
Feeling and loving is the only way
That the heart knows
Love is grounded
It accepts the imperfections
Of the person that
We love
Working through
Bad times while
Enjoying the good
Love is honesty
It gives people
The opportunity
To be themselves completely
Love is a journey
That should always
Be allowed to continue
It’s the only way
For the one that
Is for us
To find us
Life should not
Be about only surviving
Heartbreak
From past mistakes
Or merely existing
But thriving in happiness
And enjoying life
Now that’s living

A Year Ago Today

At times life
Can seem so unfair
When a person passes away
It becomes so clear
That we all
Have very little time here
In a blink of an eye
We go from being our parent’s babies
To holding our very own children
No matter how a person
Touches our lives
Their importance
Becomes apparent
When the person
Is no longer here
To bless us with
The very things
That we hold
So near and so dear
One life touches other
Even though we sometimes
Don’t realize
How significant
That we are
Which is why loss
Hits like a ton
Of bricks
Crashing in
Weighing heavy on our hearts
We are never ready
But why should we be
We are not ready
To set a person free
Today is Chris Cornell’s birthday
He is missed today
As much as he was when
He passed away
Perhaps even more
I wish that
He could tell his family
That he loves them
One more time
I wish that
He could huge them
And not let go
I wish that we could
Get a chance to
Hear him sing live
One more time
I wish that we all
Could witness his smile
To listen to lyrics
That he wrote
Which were pulled
Deep from within his soul
All of us fans feeling like
We can relate
And admire him
For expressing his feelings
I wish he could be here
So we could all let him
Know how much that he is valued
And that he’s not alone

What Being A Mother Means to Me

It’s not about being recognized
Because we will continue
To do right by our children
As long as we are alive
We make sure that our children
Are fed and not just fast food
But homecooked meals
That are filled with our love
We make daily sacrifices
We give our children
Our undivided attention
We cloth our children with the best
But it goes beyond fashion
When we send our children off to school
It’s with the hopes
That they will do better than we did
We put smiles on our children’s faces
We give hope and strength
We pray that when our children get older
That they will not know
Anything about the word poverty
We teach our children the importance
Of having a strong relationship with God
Because it’s one of the best things
That they will ever have
Yes, we may make mistakes along the way
But when we mess up
We know how important it is
To fess up
Of course we are human
But no one is too big
That they can’t ask for forgiveness
Because besides having
God’s respect
Our children’s respect comes right behind His
We pray that our children
Will have better marriages
And no soul ties
Nothing that will ever break their spirits
But inheritance of happier hearts and beautiful minds
So when they go out into the world
They will be equipped with the knowledge
To thrive
Time flys
Our children will go from babies
In our arms
To young adults that are off to college
So we have to bless our children
With memories that will last them a lifetime
Being a mother isn’t about us
It’s about the children
Whom God blessed us with

Happy Birthday Kalieel

You were born ten days before my birthday
You are one of the most beautiful gifts
That I have ever been blessed to receive
Happy Birthday to my youngest son
Ever since you were born
You have been a ray of sunshine
And one of the best things
That I have ever held in my arms
Besides your brother
You know me better than anyone
In spite of you having autism
You know my favorite
Music, tv shows, video games, and football team
Our number one favorite thing is praying
Such an amazing young man
You always know how to brighten my day
When I am feeling down
You tell me that
Things will be okay
I could go on forever in a day
Telling you how much
Of a blessing that you are to me
I am so thankful
That God gave me you
I love you very much
You are my everything
To my heart
There is so much joy that you bring
Happy 15th Birthday Kalieel
I pray that God blesses
You with the desires
Of your heart
Each and every one

This Time of Year

I always get sad
Around this time of year
It’s when my mother
Left from here
Let me make myself clear
When it comes to
The death of a love one
You never heal
It’s impossible to get over
Losing someone who
You held so near, so dear
To your heart
There are always
Things that remind you
That they are gone
A picture, a memory, a song
Holidays, birthdays
Every time I reached
An important moment in my life
I would whisper
This is for you mom
I often wonder
How things would be like
If she was here
What advice would
She have given me
To help to endure hardships
She was so strong
She was so courageous
She was a leader
She was a blessing
She was my hero
Which is why all
I ever wanted to do
Was to make her happy
And to see her smile
It’s still impossible
For me to talk about her
Without holding back my tears
Bottled up feelings
Resides inside even though
I live my life
As best as I can
Even after twenty-one years this Saturday
It’s still feels as if
She passed yesterday
This is why I say
If you have lost
A special someone
Don’t allow anyone
To make you feel
As if the grief process has a limit
To heck with that
Never feel bad about
Mourning the one you love
Or for missing them
The pain is for life
Death of a love one
Will always hurt

Sometimes I Wanna

Sometimes I wanna
Just listen to the guitar riffs
Of a song alone
So that I can imagine
How the guitarist
Created it as they hummed
Guitar riffs are something that rock,
Funk and jazz music
All sometimes can share
Sometimes I wanna blare my music
As I intensely cheer
Sometimes I wanna
Listen to the strings playing on a banjo
Tunes of country music with words
Of sadness and heartbreak to it
Sometimes I wanna line dance
And slap leather to the sound of a fiddle
Music brings all kinds of people together
It transcends across
The lines of racial boundaries
Sometimes I wanna relax
And listen to Luther’s smooth, soulful voice
That man could sing anything
He gave R & B true meaning
His legacy will always be
Sometimes I wanna
Hear great Hip Hop music
But not too much of the ones of today
It only makes me ponder
About the artist of yesterday
Boogie Down Production,
Public Enemy and Eric B and Rakim
Made me proud to listen to them
Sometimes I wanna hear an artist
Like Phil Anselmo
And Jonathan Davis screaming
What can I say
I am a metalhead all the way
Sometimes I wanna
Hear rock artist singing
Like Chris Cornell and Jack White
There is nothing like
Listening to Steve Vai
While looking at a starry sky
It’s like I am enjoying the beauty
Of the scenes to a beautiful movie
Forgive me for being a music fan
Who gets bored easily
From hearing the same things daily
Which is good actually
Variety is the spice of life
My taste in music is one of diversity
There is nothing
Like being able to appreciate
Music from every genre
From House to Techno
From Indie Pop to Gospel
From Reggae to classical
Each one has their own particular way
Of telling a story through song
That is uniquely done

It’s Done

You and I are no longer
The indication
Of this grows stronger
Each day that passes by
There is no need for
Making any kind
Of insinuations
Pertaining to this situation
We are both guilty
Of the demise
Of our marriage
And it’s final destination
Yours was infidelity
Which I gave you
Multiple opportunities
Like the game of baseball
You always struck out
Mines was people pleasing
Doing whatever it took
To make my family happy
Even though it left
Our finances drowning
We both fooled ourselves
About what marriage
Was about
We got it wrong
We was young
We was dumb
This is without a doubt
God may not have
Ordained our marriage
However marriage doesn’t
Have to be ordained
For it to be valid
Marriage is a covenant
Made by God
He expects a
Full commitment
When two people
Enters into it
There will be ups and downs
That’s when a couple must fight
They can’t be weak
And throw in the towel
It’s only taking
The easy way out
Once two people come
Together under the law
Of marriage that
Is suppose to be it
I’m sorry that we wasn’t
Strong enough
I’m sorry that we couldn’t
Tough it out
Or understand
The importance of marriage
I’ll accept your apology
And I pray that someday
You will accept mine
There’s always room
For an apology
As long as it’s sincere
If a heart is open
There’s always room
For forgiveness
A testimony
Will come out of this
I am not sure
How or what it will be
Over time we will see

Spare Tire

Society can try to dress up
Infidelity all it wants
Side chicks are not
The go to women
Like a spare tire
They are the least desired
A man pulls her out for a ride
When the original tire is
Out of commission
Due to being damaged
By the hands of the man
But as soon as the original
Is patched up
The spare tire immediately
Goes back into the trunk
Into the darkness
Where no one can see it
Because it’s an eyesore
Ladies don’t be a spare tire
You are worth so much more
Than being a backup plan
For a man
Who has trouble with commitment
Don’t be a secret
Go with an available man
The one whom you are
Destined to be with
Who will love you the most
One who will proclaim
His love for you
From coast to coast
Don’t do something
That you wouldn’t want
Done to you
Don’t be the go to
You are only being a fool
