Our History

A past is something that we all have. Today will be yesterday by this time tomorrow. Will I make a mistake? Will I offend someone? Will I overcook my broccoli? Will I wear my wig wrong and never be able to live it down? Will someone have a problem with the way that I lived my life ten years from now? When I get into a relationship how much of my past is owed to my partner? If I have worked my past out with God why should I have to dig up old bones again? I am not trying to pull out skeletons that are in my closet and lay them across the bed like a wardrobe. Explaining this mistake and that mistake. Really?! I am torn about this subject. I have so many questions and feelings.

In the news there has been waves made about this amazing Youtube couple name Justin and Ami McClure. Mr. and Mrs. McClure are a interracial couple who has a set of twins and a son. Recently, Mr. McClure’s past came back to haunt him. Many years ago before Mr. McClure got married he made some racist tweets about black people and black women. This situation has caused a media frenzy and I pray that their marriage can withstand this situation. I believe that Mr. McClure learned from his mistake there are many who refuse to allow him to live it down. It is obvious that he loves his family. This man adopted the twins if that doesn’t show that he’s a man of substance I don’t know what will. There are a lot of men who don’t take care of their children and he’s not one of them. Just Sayin.

It’s funny how last night I kind of got into a small debate about women who have been divorced giving a single or married couples advice. The guy felt that a divorced woman couldn’t give advice because her marriage didn’t last. As if a wife is solely responsible for keeping a marriage together. A person can’t keep a person who doesn’t want to be kept. In my opinion marriages end every day for different reasons. If a man cheats should a woman stay? If a woman cheats should a man stay? If a man is a drug addict should a woman stay? I get tired of one sided people. This man calls himself a Christian yet it’s the wife’s fault if a marriage falls apart? What happened to the husband being the head bruh? One of his female facebook’s friends jumped on the post coming for me. SMH! Ummm Sis. You go right ahead on and talk to yourself. Long story short I believe that experience is the best teacher. A mistake is a mistake no matter what kind that it is. Oh we can choose what a mistake is now? Suppose people got married young and things didn’t work out? Maybe the people who got married young can give advice about why getting married young was a bad choice. The base word of message is mess. A message can’t happen without a mess happening. We can learn from the past that’s why they teach history in school.

I don’t know about anyone else but I refuse to be bonded by my mistakes. I’m not going to keep reliving things. I might get involved with a partner and have to explain something that happened years ago? I don’t think so. If a person was married before okay then they should share that information. No one wants to have their past dug up. Our present is a gift that affects our future. The past is over and we have to be careful of people who are out to hurt us. Mr.McClure’s tweets are many years old and no I am not saying it’s okay. All I am asking is how long do we have to keep reliving something that is over? And why is it that some people gets a quicker pass than others? They will extend the courtesy a million miles long for certain people. I refuse to not live my life to the fullest out of fear. I have dealt with my past as far as I am concerned if there is nothing in my past that will hurt my partner later then there is nothing to discuss. Cars don’t drive backwards. People don’t walk backwards. So why should I live my life constantly looking back. Everyone has made mistakes and will continue to do so it’s called being human. The worst thing about a mistake is if nothing was learned from it. So I am erasing my past mistakes unless they can be useful to somebody else, besides that there is no need of studying my past one won’t be able to earn a degree from it.

Puddle of Mudd

As I was looking through my Facebook news feed I saw advertising from FM99 about a Puddle of Mudd concert. Memories of me listening to the song Blurry came crashing through. So I went on YouTube to watch the video. As I watched the video for Blurry I read the comments.

It sadden me to know about Wes Scantlin’s substance abuse problems. I’m glad that he went into rehab and I pray that everything works out for him.

People judge a person with substance abuse problems not realizing most times when a person has the problems there is always a reason why. We all have battles that we need to overcome and for some it’s substance abuse. I try really hard to empathize with others and do it with genuineness. Lest we forget that no one is exempt from hard times.

k.d.lang

k.d.lang is a Canadian born singer-songwriter who helped to make the 80s and 90s awesome. She has one of the most beautiful voices in the business. My favorite song by her is called “Constant Craving”. When she was on MTV Unplugged her voice sounded just like the album; the entire performance was flawless

For the people of today MTV Unplugged performances are for musicians with true talent. In other words no studio effects like Auto-Tunes are allowed. Auto-Tunes is nothing more than pitch-correcting technology used to correct flawed voices!!! Yeah I said it! LMBO!!!

k.d.lang is currently on The Ingenue Redux US Tour. The Grammy winner recently won an award from the Americana Awards. When you get a chance check out her music it’s what I am listening to today. I guarantee that her voice will have you craving for more constantly!

Icky Racism

I saw something on You-Tube that was absolutely disgusting. There was a video from Jack White’s concert where Jack White sang Icky Trump instead of Icky Thump. Now if you have been following me long enough it’s no secret how much of a humongous fan that I am of Jack White. I love his music. Anyway, there was a commenter who made a icky comment that was very racist.

Jack White has been very vocal about his feelings towards Donald Trump. When Jack White did his lyrics it said “Who’s using who? What should we do? Well you can’t be a pimp and a prosititute too. Jack White Add That’s for you Trump. You can’t be a president and a prostitute too.” This is in response to America’s immigration policies.

So under the video an icky commenter made some foul comments besides the grammar being repulsive saying things like Black and Latinos aren’t into Jack White’s music!!!! Dude seriously?!

I am pretty sure that I am not the only black person in the world who appreciates the brilliance of Jack White’s music. I have Jack White t-shirts, listens to him just about every day and brought a ticket to see him play in Washington, D.C. If you ask my family and friends who’s my favorite musician they will say Jack White.

I am all for freedom of speech but I draw the line at stupidity. Racism is just plain Icky.

My top songs for 2017 and looks who’s number 1!!!

Are We Obligated?

More and more I am seeing other people in my race asking this question “Are we obligated”. Just because we share the same skin color doesn’t mean that we support or think the same way.

I have always thought differently from the black collective. No, I don’t support things that will cause division. If a black person says people can support who they want in politics or people can love who they choose. They had better get ready for the pushbacks and attacks. The main attacks are the name calling and the public humiliation. It’s all silencing tactics and frankly no I don’t want to align myself with people who will attack as soon as you don’t agree about something.

Here are the facts, yes white people have done things in the past but Not to me directly, the people who hurt me the most look like me. During the month of black history, there needs to be more honesty about what the black race did to each other.

In my opinion, we can never move forward as a race without placing the blame where it belongs. Everything isn’t the white people’s fault. Sorry but not sorry. I’m just being honest.

Jack White Baby!!!

Maannn!!!The new year just got better. Jack White has just released a song called Connected by Love. Jack White is absolutely brilliant. I am huge fan of all of Jack White’s music. I love the White Stripes, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, and his solo projects. When I saw a post yesterday that was about his new song being released today, I got hyped. I have already added Connected by Love to my playlist on Spotify. The only thing for me to do now is see him play live!!! Let’s Go!!!

Stop It

So I just took a little break from my homework assignment to blog a quick post. I received a notification from an awesome lady that I follow on You-Tube about some fake news. There have been rumors circulating that black women are planning to boycott the movie Black Panther. Now hang on to your hats for the reason why it is being boycotted. It is rumored that it’s because of an actor by the name of Michael B. Jordan. I had to google his name I’m not a huge movie buff so please pardon me for my lack of knowledge of not knowing who he is. The reason why black women are so called angry is because of who he is dating. Fake News!!! No one cares about who this guy is dating it’s his choice, I could give a hill of beans. I promote interracial dating especially for black women because it’s rarely seen. And I believe that love has no color so whomever it is that’s responsible for starting this rumor is really lame.
anigif_enhanced-3237-1410390398-4

As I have already shared I am not really into movies but I do love certain television shows such as the Walking Dead. I love Michonne and I love the actress Danai Gurira. The reason why I would pay to see Black Panther is because I would want to see her. It’s comical to me how there’s fake news about black women being triggered by who Michael B. Jordan is dating. It’s a known fact that when most black men become famous they marry out of their race. To me it’s all good as long as they don’t treat white women as a status of luxury like a mansion or a fancy car because that’s not cool either; they are human beings. We are all human beings who are worthy of true love regardless of our race. Why does it have to take some black men to have money in order to date out? Do they feel that without having a lot of money maybe non-black women wouldn’t give them a chance? Hmmm perhaps there isn’t much to them besides their money? Anyway I don’t care who people choose to date it doesn’t affect me. Every person has the right to date and marry whomever they choose. Love has no color. Most black women feel exactly how I do we don’t care who black men date so please Stop the Madness!!! Stop With the Fake News!!!

Pink Metal Head

I have to start by saying that I am stoked!!! Here on be lifted I talk about the things that we think about, but they spoke about. I have shared about my love for heavy metal mind you that I listen to all music; however, rock/heavy metal is my favorite. Ever since I was young, I have loved heavy metal!!! I grew up in a time where a black girl listening to heavy metal was unheard of, and I’m thankful that my mother allowed me to be free to listen to what I wanted to. It was no secret about my love for heavy metal. The first song that had me hooked on rock music was AC/DC “You Shook Me All Night Long,” which came out in 1980, the video was very cool. When Nine Inch Nails first came out in 1989 with “Head Like a Hole” I was hooked, and I have been a fan of their’s ever since. Trent Reznor and I both share the same birthday, May 17th baby!! Type O Negative has made an impact on me, and I love the band so much.

The reason why I bring up my love for heavy metal/rock music is that recently I came across a young black lady who loves heavy metal as I do. The you tuber’s name is pink metal head, and she’s 21 years old. It’s so refreshing to see young black ladies owning their identity unapologetically. She did share that there have been people who try to match a person’s race to music. Example that black people listen to hip hop and r & b only and that white people listen to heavy metal/ rock music only. The stereotypes seriously have got to go. Things had gotten a lot better from when I was growing up. Seeing more and more young black ladies, as well as men, appreciate heavy metal chokes me up. I just had to blog about it.

Both of my sons listens to heavy metal/rock music; my youngest listens to everything that I do. My youngest son’s favorite bands are Metallica and Danzig. His favorite song by Metallica is “One,” and his favorite song by Danzig is “Mother.” Today my youngest and I was jamming to Pantera, Megadeath, White Zombie, Type O Negative, Metallica and the list goes on and on. With the younger generations tastes in music becoming more diverse, it’s the best feeling on Earth. I want to tell the youth of today that music transcends racial boundaries if you want to listen to country music go ahead I love Darius Rucker. I have been a fan of Darius Rucker every since he was the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish. If you love hip hop and R & B, listen to it and if you love heavy metal/rock music, then jam on. If you love all music as I do, that’s great too. Whatever music that you choose to listen to, please do as long as you are you. Even our choices of music say a lot about who we are so doing what makes you happy as long as it isn’t hurting anybody. I’m proud of the upcoming heavy metal generation; it’s becoming more colorful; which is excellent.

Rejection is a Blessing

Rejection is a blessing!!! When I was younger rejection used to bother me, then I realized it’s their loss, not mine. Everyone isn’t going to like me, and I am okay with that. I was watching a You-Tube video, and the lady made some fantastic points about not being the collective of black people. I have felt this way all of my life, I listen to all kinds of music, and I think a completely different way for sure. She spoke of how her people who are black people have been the cruelest towards her, and it wasn’t the other races of people. I can testify about what she said. This used to bother me, but I have since embraced who I am. I go where I am appreciated. I am thrilled because I feel free, and that’s a blessing. I will not hide my feelings, likes, or dislikes if people don’t like who I am then goodbye. It means our time has expired and I am good trust me on this!!!! Everything happens for a reason, and some people are for a season.

I have written posts about being honest about what’s going on within the black community. The numbers don’t lie, and it’s not wrong information. Some people don’t want to face the truth, which means they are not ready to change the community. We have to be honest about the problems that are in the black community. If you speak about what’s wrong in the black community, you will get attacked. People will be on you quicker than Clark Kent can find a phone booth and change into Superman. Instead of using google to stalk people or attempt to “expose others” how about using it to find out about the black babies being born out of wedlock, high divorce, and low marriage rates if that doesn’t make you want to promote positive changes I’m not sure what will. Change within the black community can’t come by blaming the white race for why the community is the way that it is when we are setting today’s trend of negativity and damage. I don’t want to hear about Andrew Jackson with slaves and being on the money. Can we get up to date Harriet Tubman is on the front of the money Andrew Jackson is on the back….like how slavery is back in the day? I am very familiar with what took place years ago.

Don’t tell me that you support your people when black people have a business some of you expect a hookup. Complain about the prices in a black-owned restaurant but pay good money in another. SMH!!! Ahhhhhh!!! The Contradictory. We speak of being one of the most tolerant races, yet some people are quick to reject people who are different from them. I thank God for helping me to be happy with who I am that way I won’t waste my time trying to get people to accept me. I am fine with being a square I don’t want to fit in the black collective circle. I am Tameeka!!! I love God, football, basketball, poetry, all music however rock music is my favorite, I’m a single mother, I’m educated, I’m kind, I’m supportive, I’m loyal, and the list goes on and on. I love myself enough to know who I am, where I belong, and where I don’t.
