You Guys!!! I love Steve Vai. My goal is to learn how to play his song For the Love of God. His songs need no words because his guitar does all the talking. I was listening to his music on repeat of course and my oldest loves it too. Steve Vai is absolutely incredible. Just had to make a quick post about what I am listening to. If you get the chance, please check out Steve Vai’s music. You will not be disappointed.
The hardest thing in my life ever is my Christian walk. God is love, right? So why is walking with Christ so hard? Well I will tell you first of all it’s Not Christ that is the problem, it’s some of the people. Somewhere along the way some Christians have gotten things mixed up somehow. What does a Christian’s walk look like? What should a Christian look like? What is Christ like? I have been questioning this every since I decided to become more serious about my walk with Christ. First and foremost no two Christians’ walk are alike because no two people lives are the same. Every person on earth life has a story that can reach and touch certain people. Everyone has sinned. Everyone has won battles and are still fighting certain battles. One thing is for sure regardless of a person’s life, what a person may have done or who they are God can still use them. No one knows what God is doing in someone else’s life, remember Job in the Bible? Job “friends” thought the troubles in his life was his fault but it wasn’t.
We have to understand that we can know scripture back to front, we can say all the right things with the wrong heart and it has no value. We have to stay in the place of God’s love. God’s love is what leads a man to change to repentance. (Romans 2:4) I had a thought and I may be wrong but one of the most serious books in the Bible is Revelation. A lot of pastors don’t teach from it much but why is it at the very end and not the first book? Chances are if a person read Revelation first they probably would not want to read the rest of the Bible. Perhaps Revelation comes after all the other Books because every book prepares us and strengthens us for what’s to come.
Social media can be a great thing it gives people the ability to reach others with our opinions and information. However social media also makes it easier for people to beat each other down. Some Christians become fixated on how they think a Christian walk should look like. We need to not be so quick to judge someone else’s walk when we have no idea what God is doing in that person’s life. Most importantly no Christian should be afraid to shine a light in a dark place in order to reach others. No Christian should want to only reach people who look, think like them and have a little group because that’s not Christ like it’s cult like. Know the difference. I am constantly growing in the Lord. Who am I to judge a person with tattoos, a drug user or a promiscuous person? Who am I to try tell Brian “Head” Welch about his walk with Christ? God is using Brian Welch is in a mighty way. I don’t know what God is doing in his life. No one can tell me what God is doing in my life either just because I listen to all kinds of music does not mean that God cannot and isn’t using me. I don’t know what God is doing in my life in the future but I am ready for Him to use me.
Someone once said if you want to make God laugh tell Him the plans that you have for your life. After all God knew us before we was born. (Jeremiah 1:5) God directs our paths (Proverbs 3:). To answer all my questions I don’t know what a Christian walk looks like because I don’t know what God is doing in other people’s lives. If God was that easy to figure out why would we need Him? God ways and thinking is higher than ours. God loves us all and can save us all if we allow Him to. The last thing I ever want to do is be responsible for sending a person to hell because I turn them off from turning to Him based on my actions. If God can change me or anybody else why doubt what God can do in someone else’s life? Isn’t that placing limits on a limitless God we all need to be careful of how we treat other Christians and other people period. We all need to check our hearts constantly and love others always. We may be the only Christ that they see. Let’s help God to win souls and not lose them. God loves everyone. As Brian “Head” Welch said “God told him to look at the crowd of fans that they were all of His Children and He wanted to save them all”. Didn’t Jesus change the woman at the well and the woman who was caught in adultery? Did Jesus judge the Pharisees about stoning the woman who was caught in adultery?
1 Corinthians 8:1
Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.
KORN!!!!!! I love the band Korn!!! Brian “Head” Welch left the band in 2005 but he returned in 2013. Brian said that God told him to return back to Korn. Brian spoke of how he received a lot of backlash from the Christian community because of him returning back to Korn. He said that God told him to spread His love!!! Glory to God!!! God can use anyone and that’s a fact.
Oprah Winfrey made some amazing points when she accepted her Golden Globe Award. One of the things that she said was everyone has a story and for us to share it. With that being said I going to share MY STORY because it’s mine ALONE!!! No one knows MY LIFE STORY better than me except God almighty. Anyone who attempts to lessen my story has a motive and it’s an evil one. I am me and I am Not caring about who accepts me or not. I know what my hobbies are. I know what kinds of music that I love and how long that I have been listening to it. And most importantly I know who I am attracted and how long it’s been.
I have been listening to heavy metal when it was unheard of. My mother brought me shirts with heavy metal bands on them. In the 80s people used to write on their jeans mine had the name of metal bands on them. I had my walled plastered with all kinds of musicians including heavy metal bands.
It’s comical how some people think they know your history but really they don’t. Interracial dating is becoming more common between white men and black women. I have always been attracted to white men my first serious boyfriend was white. My first boyfriend brought me a car and we put stickers of heavy metal bands all over it. One time while my boyfriend at the time was out to sea my sister asked for a ride and a cop pulled me over for gp. Here I am a black woman with braids driving a car with heavy metal stickers on it in the early 90s. My sister can back me up on this story as well as a few others.
Interracial dating between white men and black women is really nothing new; it’s just becoming more common now. Some people act like it’s a big discovery like Columbus claiming America when Leif Erikson had already been there and done that. Facts!!!!! There are more books, movies, television shows, and groups that promotes interracial dating but they wasn’t around when I was dating outside of my race.
Now there are people who be like why are people being so vocal about interracial dating between white men and black women? Well because it’s still not really accepted and in order for couples to make it support is needed. It’s not easy to date interracial; it’s hard now and it was even harder when I first started dating outside of my race. I remember one time when my white boyfriend at the time and I was holding hands walking through the mall together when a large group of black males attempted to walk between us to get us to stop holding hands. I told him to ignore them because they would have tired to just him and me. I wouldn’t stood there and allow anyone to hurt him.
I am so excited that more and more people are following their hearts and being who they are. I rather for people to think I am strange than to Not be free because I am afraid of what people think of me. I am going to listen to the music that I enjoy and love who I want to love whether they have my skin color or not.
It cannot be stressed enough the 90s had the best music ever. On January 25, 1994 Alice in Chains album released Jar of Flies. My favorite songs off of Jar of Flies are No Excuses and Nutshell. The album is soon to be 24 years old!! Man does time fly.
The Seattle scene produced so many huge bands like Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Candlebox and some try to say Screaming Trees. My favorite album by Alice in Chains is Dirt which turned 25 years old last September.
So many bands made music that I really enjoyed and felt I could relate to. I’m so thankful for the art of music. Happy Birthday Month to the album Jar of Flies. Yay!
I have to start off by saying that I am totally stoked!!! Here on be lifted I talk about the things that are thought about but they are not spoken about. I have shared about my love for heavy metal mind you that I listen to all music however rock/heavy metal is my favorite. Every since I was young I have loved heavy metal!!! I grew up in a time where a black girl listening to heavy metal was unheard of, I’m thankful that my mother allowed me to be free to listen to what I wanted to. It was no secret about my love for heavy metal. The first song that had me hooked on rock music was AC/DC “You Shook Me All Night Long” which came out in 1980, the video was very cool. When Nine Inch Nails first came out in 1989 with “Head Like a Hole” I was hooked and I have been a fan of their’s every since. Trent Reznor and I both share the same birthday, May 17th baby!! Type O Negative really has made an impact on me and I love the band so much.
The reason why I am bring up my love for heavy metal/rock music is because recently I came across a black young lady who loves heavy metal like I do. The you tuber’s name is pink metal head and she’s 21 years old. It’s so refreshing to see young black ladies owning their identity unapologetically. She did share that there have been people who try to match a person’s race to music. Example that black people listen to hip hop and r & b only and that white people listens to heavy metal/ rock music only. The stereotypes seriously has got to go. Things have gotten a lot better from when I was growing up. Seeing more and more young black ladies as well as men appreciate heavy metal just chokes me up. I just had to blog about it.
Both of my sons listens to heavy metal/rock music; my youngest listens to everything that I do. My youngest son’s favorite bands are Metallica and Danzig. His favorite song by Metallica is “One” and his favorite song by Danzig is “Mother”. Today my youngest and I was jamming to Pantera, Megadeath, White Zombie, Type O Negative, Metallica and the list just goes on and on. With the younger generations tastes in music becoming more diverse, it’s the best feeling on Earth. I just want to tell the youth of today that music transcends racial boundaries if you want to listen to country music go ahead I love Darius Rucker. I have been a fan of Darius Rucker every since he was the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish. If you love hip hop and R & B listen to it and if you love heavy metal/rock music then jam on. If you love all music like I do, that’s great too. Whatever music that you choose to listen to please do as long as you are being you. Even our choices of music says a lot about who we are so do what makes you happy as long as it isn’t hurting anybody. I’m proud of the upcoming heavy metal generation,it’s becoming more colorful ; which is excellent.
July 20th is Chris Cornell’s birthday. I wrote something special in his memory.
I woke up feeling so sad that it was overwhelming. I don’t believe that I will be getting over his passing anytime soon. The year was 1991 my mother purchased Temple of the Dog on cassette and Badmotorfinger later that year for me.
When I discovered Soundgarden it was one of the best moments that I will never forget. I remember staying up late to watch Soundgarden appear on headbanger’s ball. My favorite time watching Soundgarden appear on headbanger’s ball was when they went bowling. We got the chance to witness Chris’s sense of humor and radiant smile.
Chris had such an amazing voice. Such an extraordinary songwriter. Such an out of this world guitarist. Such a gorgeous man. Such a beautiful soul. What a profound loss.
I can’t believe that I missed so many opportunities to experience seeing him play live through my eyes and not through someone else’s camera len’s. I was guilty of taking time for granted thinking that I would have a chance to see him one day. Well that someday will in no way happen now.
I remember how badly that I wanted to see Soundgarden. I would be riding in the car with my mom and I would look over at the Boathouse and say mom I want to go there. Since then my mom has passed away, the Boathouse was torn down and Chris Cornell has passed away.
Chris Cornell had a great voice that carried a great message. One of those messages was being shown how to live which is something that we all must do. Live and not take anything for granted especially time. Live and not hurt anyone. Live and inspire. Live and let everyone you love know that they are loved while they are still here. Live and have no fear. Live and write something memorable. Live and listen to your favorite song really loud. Most importantly live in a way that there are less regrets and more joy.
Happy Birthday to Chris Cornell the voice of our generation. Thank you for all that you have shared with us. We miss you.
