Pink Metal Head

I have to start by saying that I am stoked!!! Here on be lifted I talk about the things that we think about, but they spoke about. I have shared about my love for heavy metal mind you that I listen to all music; however, rock/heavy metal is my favorite. Ever since I was young, I have loved heavy metal!!! I grew up in a time where a black girl listening to heavy metal was unheard of, and I’m thankful that my mother allowed me to be free to listen to what I wanted to. It was no secret about my love for heavy metal. The first song that had me hooked on rock music was AC/DC “You Shook Me All Night Long,” which came out in 1980, the video was very cool. When Nine Inch Nails first came out in 1989 with “Head Like a Hole” I was hooked, and I have been a fan of their’s ever since. Trent Reznor and I both share the same birthday, May 17th baby!! Type O Negative has made an impact on me, and I love the band so much.

The reason why I bring up my love for heavy metal/rock music is that recently I came across a young black lady who loves heavy metal as I do. The you tuber’s name is pink metal head, and she’s 21 years old. It’s so refreshing to see young black ladies owning their identity unapologetically. She did share that there have been people who try to match a person’s race to music. Example that black people listen to hip hop and r & b only and that white people listen to heavy metal/ rock music only. The stereotypes seriously have got to go. Things had gotten a lot better from when I was growing up. Seeing more and more young black ladies, as well as men, appreciate heavy metal chokes me up. I just had to blog about it.

Both of my sons listens to heavy metal/rock music; my youngest listens to everything that I do. My youngest son’s favorite bands are Metallica and Danzig. His favorite song by Metallica is “One,” and his favorite song by Danzig is “Mother.” Today my youngest and I was jamming to Pantera, Megadeath, White Zombie, Type O Negative, Metallica and the list goes on and on. With the younger generations tastes in music becoming more diverse, it’s the best feeling on Earth. I want to tell the youth of today that music transcends racial boundaries if you want to listen to country music go ahead I love Darius Rucker. I have been a fan of Darius Rucker every since he was the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish. If you love hip hop and R & B, listen to it and if you love heavy metal/rock music, then jam on. If you love all music as I do, that’s great too. Whatever music that you choose to listen to, please do as long as you are you. Even our choices of music say a lot about who we are so doing what makes you happy as long as it isn’t hurting anybody. I’m proud of the upcoming heavy metal generation; it’s becoming more colorful; which is excellent.

What’s Tameeka Listening to?

Yes! This is my first what’s Tameeka listening to post for 2018. The year was 1993 I was up late watching headbangers ball when I saw Type O Negative Christian Woman video. I fell completely in love with Peter Steele’s voice and his looks. There’s no female fan of Type O Negative who doesn’t feel like I do.

Today is Peter Steele’s birthday he was the leader singer, composer and bassist of Type O Negative. I was so sad to hear about his passing on April 14,2010, he was a really talented guy. Type O Negative helped to make the 90’s music great. My favorite album by Type O Negative is called Bloody Kisses. The music of today can’t hold a candle to the music of the 90’s. Every genre of music of the 90’s was excellent that’s a fact.

Often I have wondered what my mom thought when she passed my bedroom hearing all the different kinds music. My mother was really an amazing lady she allowed me to be me completely and didn’t question my choices. My mother wanted me to be happy, heck she liked some of the metal songs that I listened to as well.

Peter Steele this post is for you. I wish that I could have watched you play live but it’s okay I’ll keep jamming to your music. There’s so many other things that you did that added to your sexiness but I’m just going to keep it classy. RIP.

The White Stripes

Jack, Jack and more Jack!!!! I absolutely love Jack White! Jack White is incredibly talented. He has been in multiple bands my favorite is the White Stripes of course. I enjoy his solo projects too he’s working on a new one right now. Chris Cornell did a cover of Seven Nation Army and he killed it. I just want to go on record about how much I love Jack White. Jack White looks a little like Johnny Depp. It would be a dream for me to check out his record store Third Man Records. He has broken so many records like the fastest record made. There is so much in store from him I know it and I so cannot wait!

Fell on Black Days

Soundgarden

Whatsoever I’ve feared has come to life
Whatsoever I’ve fought off became my life
Just when everyday seemed to greet me with a smile
Sunspots have faded and now I’m doing time
Now I’m doing time
‘Cause I fell on black days
I fell on black days

Whomsoever I’ve cured, I’ve sickened now
And whomsoever I’ve cradled, I’ve put you down
I’m a search light soul they say
But I can’t see it in the night

I’m only faking when I get it right
When I get it right

‘Cause I fell on black days
I fell on black days

How would I know
That this could be my fate?
How would I know
That this could be my fate? Yeah

Uh, uh, uh
Uh, uh, uh
Uh, uh, uh

So what you wanted to see good
Has made you blind
And what you wanted to be yours
Has made it mine

Don’t you lock up something
That you wanted to see fly
Hands are for shaking
No, not tying, no, not tying

I sure don’t mind a change
I sure don’t mind a change
Yeah, I sure don’t mind, sure don’t mind a change
I sure don’t mind a change

‘Cause I fell on black days
I fell on black days

How would I know
That this could be my fate?
How would I know
That this could be my fate?

How would I know
That this could be my fate?
How would I know
That this could be my fate?

I sure don’t mind a change

Happy Birthday Chris

July 20th is Chris Cornell’s birthday. I wrote something special in his memory.

I woke up feeling so sad that it was overwhelming. I don’t believe that I will be getting over his passing anytime soon. The year was 1991 my mother purchased Temple of the Dog on cassette and Badmotorfinger later that year for me.

When  I discovered Soundgarden it was one of the best moments that I will never forget. I remember staying up late to watch Soundgarden appear on headbanger’s ball. My favorite time watching Soundgarden appear on headbanger’s ball was when they went bowling. We got the chance to witness Chris’s sense of humor and radiant smile.

Chris had such an amazing voice. Such an extraordinary songwriter. Such an out of this world guitarist. Such a gorgeous man. Such a beautiful soul. What a profound loss.

I can’t believe that I missed so many opportunities to experience seeing him play live through my eyes and not through someone else’s camera len’s. I was guilty of taking time for granted thinking that I would have a chance to see him one day. Well that someday will in no way happen now.

I remember how badly that I wanted to see Soundgarden. I would be riding in the car with my mom and I would look over at the Boathouse and say mom I want to go there. Since then my mom has passed away, the Boathouse was torn down and Chris Cornell has passed away.

Chris Cornell had a great voice that carried a great message. One of those messages was being shown how to live which is something that we all must do. Live and not take anything for granted especially time. Live and not hurt anyone. Live and inspire. Live and let everyone you love know that they are loved while they are still here. Live and have no fear. Live and write something memorable. Live and listen to your favorite song really loud. Most importantly live in a way that there are less regrets and more joy.

Happy Birthday to Chris Cornell the voice of our generation. Thank you for all that you have shared with us. We miss you.

This is one of many of my favorite songs by Soundgarden. It’s called Slaves and Bulldozers.

Every word I said is what I mean
Every word I said is what I mean
Everything I gave is what I need
Virgin eyes and dirty looks
On what I have and why I took
Counting all the hands I shook

Now I know why you’ve been shaking
Now I know why you’ve been shaking
Now I know why you’ve been shaking
Now I know why you’ve been shaking

So bleed your heart out
There’s no more rides for free
Bleed your heart out
I said what’s in it for me, what’s in it for me

Everything I’ve held is what I’ve freed
Everything I’ve held is what I’ve freed
Everything I’ve shown is what I feel
Buying lies and stealing jokes
And laughing every time I choke
Biding all the time you took

Now I know why you’ve been taken
Now I know why you’ve been taken
Now I know why you’ve been taken
Now I know why you’ve been taken

So bleed your heart out
There’s no more rides for free, yeah
Bleed your heart out
I said what’s in it for me, what’s in it for me
What’s in it for, what’s in it for

Every word I said is what I mean
Everything I gave is what I need
Everything I’ve held is what I’ve freed
Everything I’ve shown is what I feel

Virgin eyes and dirty looks
On what I have and why I took
Counting all the hands I shook
Now I know why you’ve been shaking

Buying lies and stealing jokes
And laughing every time I choke
Biding all the time you took
Now I know why you’ve been taken

Moment of Silence

Let me start off by saying that I have Not watched an award show since the 90s as far as I am concerned today’s music isn’t good music at all. In my day artist cared about making a great album and not just making a hit song. Man, where did music go wrong? The artist from the 80s and 90s helps the music of today to be halfway worth listening to. The music today samples a lot of the old music of yesterday. With that being said I am Not pleased about the tribute that was given to Chris Cornell a moment of silence!? Like you folks have to be kidding me!! Chris Cornell deserved way more than a moment of silence.

Yeah, I know it sounds like I’m in my feelings well that’s because I am. I am beyond disappointed. I’m glad that I don’t watch award shows especially the Billboards awards they’re absolute garbage anyway. Chris Cornell passed way on a Wednesday and you are telling me that they couldn’t come up with a better tribute than what he got?! Stick a fork in me because I’m done. Nothing against Cher, Celine Dion or Drake if you like watching your grandma parading around in sheer garments at 71, a walking white rose that has been plucked from dress and synthesized voices. Enlighten me were those the original outfits Cher wore when I was a teenager I have got to know?! Ummmm Cher you cannot turn back time you’re a grandma’s age no disrespect. What was Celine Dion wearing last night?! Drake won an award nothing against synthesized voices however Robert Troutman did it better just ask 2Pac California Love baby!!!

If I was in charge of giving a tribute for Chris Cornell it would have been truly memorable. The moment of silence didn’t last because the people in the audience didn’t have enough respect to stay silent for long. What can I say that’s just the way of the world. Okay I am done ranting. On a lighter note U2, Dave Mustaine, Areosmith, Queensryche, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Metallica gave a tribute to Chris Cornell. Thank goodness for the artist from years ago they are keeping great music alive.
