There is a war of the spirit
The way to win this battle
Is not with the flesh
But with our spirit
It’s deeper than the flesh
Every day we must suit up
And tell ourselves
Our past is our past
You won’t get me
Negativity, Anger, Hatred,
Gossip, Jealousy, Animosity,
Everything opposite
Of what God has for me
You won’t get me
The fruit of the spirit is love
Test a person’s spirit
To avoid a sneak attack
Everything that glitters
Isn’t gold
We know that unicorns
Do not exist
We shall know a tree by its fruits
It can’t be denied
Hurt people hurt others
Healed people heal others
That shows our spirit
How we begin our day
That shows our spirit
How we handle tough times
That shows our spirit
How we treat our enemies
Or estranged family members
That shows our spirit
How we are in private verse
Who we are in the public
That shows our spirit
The scripture says that
All scripture is for our correction
So how you are living that
Shows your spirit
The scripture says
That if you call yourself holy
Yet still hold hands with the world
Then you are a liar
How is your spirit
Do you pray for others
Even the ones that have hurt you
Or the ones that you are
Not talking to
That shows your spirit
Doubt, Ill spoken words, Hopes of devising my hurt,
Generational curses, Ungodly advice
You won’t get me
I am suited up
What I can’t handle God will
I will love
I will trust
I will forgive
I will pray
I will suit up
I am ready

Masculinity
So the other day I was watching a reaction video for Type O Negative. The young lady spoke of how she had not seen masculinity like Peter Steele ever! I was thinking to myself, “What kind of men has she seen?” Not just her, I have seen other comments too. One video by Type O Negative called “Love You to Death a person assumed that Peter had self-esteem issues because of his lyrics. In the song “Love You to Death, Pete asked, “Am I good enough for you?”
First off, Peter Steele could have had any woman that he wanted. Peter Steele was a different kind of man. When I think of the lyrics asking, “Am I good enough for you?”Perhaps he understood a woman’s worth!!! Which is something that certain men could be less about if at all?
I feel that today’s world is so sad. Masculinity to me isn’t about a man’s physique; it’s about a man standing up in his manhood without fear. A strong man makes responsible decisions and knows how to make a woman feel safe. All women want to feel safe.
Once an honest opinion is verbalized, it seems like the whole world comes to an end. As a black woman, I feel that being dishonest is doing a disservice to those who need to hear the truth. I’m not going to lie about what some black men should be doing. We have been taking on many things for far too long only to be told that we have attitudes, harsh, and not feminine. I would love to be carefree like Dorothy of the Wizard of Oz. Unfortunately, I can’t.
Young ladies of this generation needs to see more men like Peter Steele and not feel that they are extinct!!!
The Art of Forgiveness
The moment a person hurts me
I forgive
The moment a person uses me
I forgive
The moment a person judges me
I forgive
The moment a person breaks my heart
I forgive
The moment a person disappoint me
I forgive
The moment the person betrays me
I forgive
The moment that a person makes me
Feel anything else besides positive
I forgive
If a person does these things to me
I develop an understanding
Rather what was done to me was done
Purposely or not
I choose to forgive
The moment that I forgive my peace
Begins and my pain ends
Forgiveness is a process
Don’t know if it can ever be perfected
It’s hard to forget
About a messed up situation
Especially when most of the time
The biggest test of forgiveness
Is forgiving a person who caused pain
That came from a person whom
Was trusted the most
Betrayal rarely comes from a stranger
Forgiveness isn’t holding on to grudges
It’s letting go of them
Besides the person doesn’t know or care
About the trouble that they caused
We all need a lesson
It’s a two way street
We all at one point has hurt someone
Purposely or unintentionally
All we can do is ask for forgiveness
You can’t push it
If we do
That means we are only thinking of ourselves
We want to be free of guilt
When we do wrong we must deal with
It and respect a person’s space
Closure may mean losing a person without a trace
Just be thankful for God’s grace
Many times that has to be enough
I Got Time
The biggest mistake
That we all make
Is feel that it’s okay
To put off things until tomorrow
What can be done today
Should be
Don’t procrastinate
Don’t wait
Stop thinking
Oh I got time
Because none of us
Knows what’s down the line
We have to stop
Taking things for granted
Like our loves ones
We get into a fight
We run
We hide
We get an ego
We won’t let the anger go
We plan on speaking
With the person later
In hopes that the peace
Between the both of you
Will be greater
Or how about that special someone
The one we have feelings for
But has yet to tell them
It’s always
One day I will let them know
It’s always
Oh I got time
Let me ask you a question
Who’s in control of time
It certainly isn’t us
What happens
When the moment that
We are waiting for never arrives
Missed opportunities
Are dangerous
They kill you inside
Makes you want to cry
Makes you want to die
Waiting on tomorrow
Sometimes can bring sorrow
From being shallow
I challenge you to borrow
From your wasted time
And contact the one who
Has been on your mind
Ever think about what happens
If you never were
To see that person ever again
I’m not judging
We are all human
I too am guilty of this
I will admit
But we must not allow
Ourselves to forget
That everyone’s time
Is limited
We must not allow ourselves
To become blind
By the phrase
Oh I got time
Because the truth is
It’s a huge lie
